Engagement Letters

Before we start any work, we provide an engagement letter. Here we explain what it is, what it covers, and how it protects and benefits both you and Numberz Insight Pty Ltd.

Overview

An engagement letter is a short, plain-language agreement that sets out exactly what we will do for you, what we each need to do, and what it will cost — all before any work begins. It is a standard part of working with a registered tax and accounting practice.

We believe good work starts with a shared understanding. The engagement letter makes sure there are no surprises: you know precisely what you’re getting and what you’re paying, and we know precisely what we’ve been asked to do.

1. What It Is

An engagement letter is a written agreement between you (the client) and Numberz Insight Pty Ltd that formally defines the professional relationship for a specific piece of work — for example, the preparation and lodgement of your individual tax return. It is issued for each service so the terms always match the work actually being done.

2. What It Covers

A typical engagement letter sets out:

  • Scope of services: Exactly what we will (and will not) do for you.
  • Your responsibilities: What information and documents you need to provide, and your obligation to ensure they are complete and accurate.
  • Our responsibilities: How we will carry out the work, with due care and skill, as a registered tax agent.
  • Fees:What the service costs and how and when you’ll be charged (see our Payments & Billing Policy).
  • Limitations: Any assumptions, exclusions, or limits on our liability.
  • Professional obligations: Our duties under the Tax Agent Services Act, professional standards, and privacy law.

3. Benefits to You

  • Complete clarity:You know exactly what’s included before you commit — no hidden scope, no guesswork.
  • Fee transparency: The cost is agreed in writing up front, so there are no surprise bills.
  • Confidence & protection: Your rights, our obligations, and how your information is handled are all set out clearly, giving you a documented record to rely on.
  • A clear point of reference: If a question comes up later, the engagement letter is the agreed source of truth.

4. Benefits to Both Parties

An engagement letter isn’t just paperwork — it genuinely benefits the working relationship for everyone:

  • Shared understanding: Both sides start with the same expectations, which leads to better, faster work.
  • Fewer disputes: When scope and fees are agreed in advance, misunderstandings are far less likely.
  • Professional standard: Engagement letters are best practice (and an expectation) for registered tax agents and accountants in Australia — using them is a mark of a properly run practice.
  • Accountability on both sides:We commit to what we’ll deliver, and you commit to providing what we need to deliver it.

5. How It Works

  • We issue your engagement letter digitally as part of getting started with a service.
  • You review it at your own pace and sign it electronically— there’s nothing to print or post.
  • Once signed, we begin the work, and a copy is kept securely in your client record for you to access at any time.
